I have a PVB on my System. Can I open the System myself?

PLEASE NOTE-THIS PROCEDURE SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT TAKE PLACE PRIOR TO THE LAST WEEK OF APRIL OR THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY. SHOULD YOU EXPERIENCE A "LATE FREEZE" IN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES OVERNIGHT, THE PVB UNIT MAY FREEZE & BURST IF OPENED TOO EARLY.

1. Make sure that the sprinkler water main inside the house is OFF. The SPRINKLER WATER MAIN is generally located in your basement. If you do NOT have a basement, the SPRINKLER WATER MAIN is likely in the Utility Room. The lever may be UP or DOWN (either works); NOT IN LINE to your Sprinkler copperwork lines.

2. Proceed outside to the area where the copperwork comes out of the house. You will find a tee there. One line goes UP; the other line goes DOWN. On the DOWN line, you will see your connected PVB device. You will need to take a pair of CHANNEL LOCKS and very gently* screw in the white PVC plug on the bottom of the copperwork (closing it).

3. Then make sure that BOTH ball valves are OPEN on the PVB. OPEN would entail that the lever runs parallel (or INLINE) with the copperwork. CLOSED would be OUT OF LINE.

4. You may then return to the basement (or Utility Room) and turn the Water Main lever to ON (this time desiring the lever to run PARALLEL to the copperwork, OPENING the lines to your System).

5. Proceed to your Controller Unit (normally installed in your garage) and turn the dial setting to AUTOMATIC. (Please ensure that your Controller Unit is STILL plugged into the electrical outlet. Per Rain Bird, MAGIC RAIN does NOT unplug at your Winterzing. The heat from the electricity keeps condensation from forming, possibly shortening the lifetime of your Controller Unit).

*Please note that MAGIC RAIN will not endure liability if a PVB is, accidentally, "OVERTIGHTENED" (stripped). However, this does not appear to be a, frequently, noticed occurrence.

ASSURANCE - MAGIC RAIN, with your needs in mind, has intentionally placed this information on a separate page so that you may PRINT if desired.
